Wake County GOP says public needs to know about Democratic school board candidate's financial woes

The Wake County Republican Party is trying to get more media attention on Democratic school board candidate Monika Johnson-Hostler’s financial issues.

In a media advisory today, Wake GOP Chairwoman Donna Williams points back to the Saturday N&O article about Johnson-Hostler having been ordered by a judge to repay nearly $14,000 in credit card debt. Williams also points to a post on the conservative Lady Liberty blog that says the District 2 candidate has also been late in paying her property taxes.

“The Wake County Republican Party applauds the News and Observer and Lady Liberty for bringing this information to light,” Williams writes. “The voters need information of this nature so that they might make informed choices for school board candidates who will be responsible for spending tax dollars for our children's education.”

The Wake GOP was decidedly unhappy in 2011 when the N&O reported on the financial problems for school board candidate Heather Losurdo.

Press Advisory: N & O/Lady Liberty exposes Debt and Tax Issues for School Board District 2 Candidate

On Friday, education reporters Kyle Jahner and T. Keung Hui from the News and Observer released the following information: "Wake County school board candidate Monika Johnson-Hostler was ordered by a court to pay a five-figure credit card debt three years ago."

In addition to this revelation, it seems Ms. Johnson-Hostler, has shown a pattern of late payments for personal property taxes over the past 3 years. A local blogger, Lady Liberty released information from public records which shows Ms. Johnson-Hostler's actions which we find most troubling.
