The Wake County Democratic Party announced today that it's backing the school construction bond issue and the Raleigh transportation bond issue.
According to a press release, the executive committee of the Democratic Party was “eager” to support the $810 million school bond. Contrast this with the leadership of the Wake County Republican Party , which voted 17-16 to oppose the school bond.

Wake County School Bond Referendum
In a unanimous vote on Monday evening the Wake County Democratic Party, Executive Committee elected to endorse the Wake County School Bond Referendum. The committee engaged in a short discussion and quickly found the majority of the committee was eager to support the bond. "The Wake County Public School System is already the largest in our state and 16th largest nationwide. This year's referendum will provide the Wake County Public School System the means necessary to build new schools, add seats, and invest in technology. Both the County Board of Education and the County Board of Commissioners recognize the need. Wake County is growing, the school age population is growing and our party's leadership strongly supports the investment in infrastructure," said Wake County Democratic Party Chairman Dan Blue III.
The Wake County Democratic Party also released its list of candidate endorsements in this fall’s school board and municipal races. There weren’t any surprises in terms of school board where the three Democrats were endorsed.
The Democrats are backing Tom Benton in District 1, Monika Johnson-Hostler in District 2 and Zora Felton in District 7. That mirrors the endorsements announced by Wake NCAE oh Wednesday.
But unlike Wake NCAE, the Democrats didn’t issue an endorsement in District 9. That’s because the only two candidates running are registered Republicans.
